CSMC Workshop Series: Compliance and Federal Program Monitoring

CSMC Workshop Series: Compliance and Federal Program Monitoring

ABOUT THIS EVENT:

While this year has proven to be quite challenging for charter schools, there has never been a better time to put systems in place to ensure compliance with federal and state requirements as you seek a return to in-person learning. Both traditional districts and charter schools have faced increased scrutiny over the use of federal funds and meeting the legal requirements for academic programming, particularly in the areas of English Learner programs, Title I program evaluation, and parent/family involvement.

The data released by the CDE for reviews conducted through January 2021, shows across the 18 review areas, the top two areas of concern for public schools throughout the state were in Compensatory Education and English Learner Programs. Specifically, there were 218 non-compliance findings in English Learner programs, and 85 in Compensatory Education.

To support charter schools in meeting these requirements and avoid non-compliant findings, we are inviting you to a three-part workshop on compliance and federal program monitoring.

This workshop series will focus on the perspective of the school in preparing for review by the California Department of Education and how to engage with your financial team to provide evidence to meet legal standards.

Topics will include the following:

  • Federal Program Monitoring Process
  • Federal Programs
  • Understanding Monitoring Instruments
  • Title I Program – Compensatory Education
  • Title III Program – English Learner Programs
  • School Site Council (SSC)
  • District/English Learner Advisory Committee (D/ELAC)
  • Stakeholder Meetings to Meet Legal Requirements
  • Board Policies and Administrative Regulations
